a singular musical event
In October 2017, more than twenty of the world's leading jazz artists gathered at a warehouse in downtown Durham, NC, to celebrate the centenary of musical icon Thelonious Monk. Presented by Duke Performances, the MONK@100 festival was the largest and most meaningful celebration of Monk's music anywhere in the world.
MONK@100: A CENTURY OF GENIUS is a feature-length documentary that tells the story of this singular musical event and the man who inspired it. The documentary will provide viewers with both an electrifying concert experience and an illuminating, behind-the-scenes look at the musicians, artists and visionaries collaborating to bring Monk’s legacy to life, while at the same time reflecting on the indelible impact Thelonious Sphere Monk has had on music the world over.
